The Chevy Silverado remains one of the most popular vehicles on the market, running right alongside the Ford F-150 as the bestselling vehicle in the United States. So, why is the Silverado such a successful vehicle? What makes it a masterpiece that customers just can’t help but purchase? Let’s look at some fun facts to paint a better picture of why.
Began As A Trim Option
The Chevy Silverado vehicle started as just a trim option for the C/K pickup, suburban, and Tahoe. However, the company began to notice the potential of the new design just by looking at the trim and chose to make it into its entity moving forward. Once they officially began production of the Chevy Silverado in 1998, it rapidly became one of their most popular options.
Innovation
The Chevy Silverado has done an excellent job innovating in the pickup truck market, most notably creating a new form of hydroforming. This allowed them to make a stronger, yet lighter, frame for their trucks. They beat both Dodge and Ford to the punch on this one.
Super Cruise
Super cruise is something that you might not be familiar with. It’s a feature that is involved with the Chevy Silverado and acts as a hands-free driver assistant that manages your speed and your steering on a ridiculous amount of compatible roads. It’s promoted to help you the most during long journeys or travels.
NASCAR Loves The Silverado
In the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, the Chevy Silverado is an unbelievably popular choice. Back in 2016, 19 different teams opted to drive the Silverado during the series. And before that, the Silverado was the car to win in the Primm 300 off-road race back in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Clearly, this vehicle has something going right for it with this much representation at the highest level.
Special Editions
The Silverado always tries to provide a multitude of special editions for you to choose from. What are those special editions you might ask? Well, each special edition has different highlights and features to best fit the style that you’re looking for. For example, some have camouflage graphics on the hood, others have assist steps, and others have spray-on bed liners. Whatever you’re looking for, one of the special editions might have it.
Tailgate
The Silverado also created a bed that can compete with any other truck in the world. They offer the Multi-Flex Tailgate, which is available regardless of the trim level. What this does is it offers six separate versatile functions to make loading and unloading cargo significantly easier than ever before. Who doesn’t want to cut down on the number of trips that they have to make?
Longevity
It should be expected with a truck like this, but the Chevy Silverado can remain in tip-top shape for quite a long time without much maintenance. There have been tons of instances where a Silverado has gone over 200,000 miles and is still trucking forward without any issues popping up. Nor were there many issues along the way.

Off-Road Potential
Many truck owners are looking for an option that allows them to handle all of their everyday needs, while also giving them the potential to handle off-road terrain as well. They’re in luck with the Chevy Silverado, as it takes on off-roading with ease. Its reliability while off-roading makes it very hard to make an argument that it isn’t one of the best trucks out there.
Surprisingly Strong Maneuverability
Normally, it isn’t a guarantee that a great off-roading type of truck would offer great maneuverability. However, that is the case here with the Chevy Silverado. This vehicle does provide great handling, and it boasts surprisingly strong agility. Part of that could be due to the firm braking feedback. Either way, you’ll have no problem moving around in tight spaces with this truck.
Maintenance Coverage
Chevy goes out of their way to cover the Silverado with a very competitive warranty. The warranty includes a complimentary maintenance visit. While there are maybe other vehicles that have a slightly better warranty, such as the Toyota Tundra, the Silverado is still right up there with the best of them.
Interior Design
The interior design of the Chevy Silverado is just as incredible as the outside. They made sure to include both a 12.3-inch diagonal Driver Information Center for you along with an equally impressive 13.4-inch diagonal infotainment touchscreen. When you’re driving, all of the information that you might need is fully available to you. On top of that, there is significant room throughout the vehicle, so you’d never feel cramped up.
Tons Of Integrations
We talked about the infotainment system briefly earlier, but doubling down on it, it offers a ton of integrations. The Silverado is fully equipped to handle Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a mobile hotspot, and even Amazon Alexa. They give you all the options that you might need when driving, and even if you don’t use them, it’s hard to say that the additions aren’t appreciated.
Smooth Engine Operation
Different styles of the Chevy Silverado were tested on their zero-60 mph speeds. The Silverado High Country hit the mark in just 5.4 seconds for example. After going through all of the different tests, the main takeaway was that the engines were operating very smoothly and quietly. Given the speeds that they were able to handle coupled with the size of the vehicle, you would imagine the engine would be a little louder than normal. That isn’t the case here.
Fuel Economy
One thing that repeatedly comes up about the Chevy Silverado is its fuel economy. A reporter asked multiple truck owners about their favorite things about the vehicle, and great fuel economy was a no-brainer for most of them. A strong fuel economy helps with both everyday use and work.
Cargo Volume
The Chevy Silverado has surprisingly strong cargo volume potential. The bed includes 12 tie-downs and can ultimately have 89.1 cu. Ft. of cargo volume. This vehicle isn’t just for everyday use, or for show. If you need a car that can help you haul heavy items from one place to another, the Silverado is capable of doing that for you too.
Trailering Capacity
We talked briefly about the cargo volume potential, though we have yet to cover the trailer capacity that the Silverado has. The car has a max trailering capacity of around 13,300 pounds, with a maximum payload of 2,260 pounds. If you’re looking to move significantly heavy items/equipment, the Silverado should be able to handle it. Couple this with the cargo volume in the back and you have a very STRONG truck.
Safety Features
Everybody wants great safety features in their vehicle, which is why the Silverado offers them in bunches. Getting a Chevy Silverado equips you with multiple safety features such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Front Pedestrian Braking, and so many more. Chevy has made it a point to add all the features that they can to keep their drivers safe.
