If you’re in or around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Red Cross needs your help with blood donations this April. There are countless Philadelphia blood drives taking place. Here’s what you need to know:
- Donors need to schedule an appointment via the Red Cross App, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
- All blood types are needed, especially type O.
- Donors need to be 17-years-old and weigh at least 110 pounds.
- You’ll need picture identification such as a driver’s license or an employee badge.
- And remember to eat a good meal and drink plenty of water prior to the donation.

COVID-19 Antibody Test Results
The COVID-19 pandemic has depleted the nation’s blood supply and your Red Cross blood donations will go towards recovering those supplies.
Full disclosure: All donations will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies. If antibodies are found, plasma from the donation may be used in convalescent treatments for COVID-19 patients.
All COVID-19 antibody test results will be available to donors within two weeks via the Red Cross Blood Donor App or online donor portal.
