Headaches are the worst, and if you are one of the unfortunate people that suffer from these on a daily, then let us give you some tips to help you get rid of a headache without using medication.

Here are 8 ways to help you get rid of a headache naturally.

1. Cold Pack

If you are having a really bad headache, the best thing you can do is place some ice cubes in a plastic bag, wrap it in a towel and place it on your forehead. Leave it there for about 15 minutes and you should start to feel a little better. If you can’t do that then you can grab a bag of frozen vegetables, or you can try taking a cold shower.

2. Hot Compress or Heating Pad

Warm compresses can help tremendously when it comes to a variety of aches and pains, so it’s no doubt they are a great way to get rid of a headache, too. Tension headaches are very common and often come with sinus problems. The best way to handle this is to get a heating pad or place a warm cloth on the back of your neck. You could also take a warm shower, and that should help significantly.

3. Ease Pressure

A lot of headaches are caused by a source causing external pressure. This can be brought on by wearing hats, headbands, or even swimming goggles that are too tight. By removing the problem, it will likely ease the headache.

4. Turn the Lights Down

All kinds of light can cause headaches. Watching a flickering tv, staring at a computer screen all day, or just being outside in the bright sunlight can cause headaches. If you find that your eyes are sensitive to light then you can turn down the light on your tv, buy blue light glasses to wear at your computer, and also wear sunglasses when you go outside.

5. Stop Chewing

Chewing, especially if you have TMJ, is not just bad for your jaw, but also your head. Even chewing your nails, the inside of your cheek or the top of a pen can give you a headache. The best thing you can do is to stop these behaviors. If you find that you are grinding your teeth at night, you can contact your dentist and they will provide you with a mouth guard.

6. Hydrate

Growing up, anytime I had a headache, the first thing my grandmother would ask was, “have you drank enough water.” Sure enough, I had not, and once I had done so the headache would disappear. Dehydration can affect your body in many ways. If you ever find yourself with a headache, ask yourself, have I drunk enough water today.

7. Relax

I already know what you’re thinking. Relaxing is easier said than done. Did you know that stress is a huge cause of a lot of illnesses out there? It’s true. There are lots of things you can do to help you manage your stress levels. You can stretch, do yoga or read your favorite book in a hot bath. Whatever you need to do that makes you feel relaxed and happy … do it! We guarantee that your recurring headaches will start to diminish.

8. Ginger

There have been many studies that have shown that ginger helped get rid of a headache. The best and easiest way to use ginger is to make ginger tea. If you are not a fan of tea there are also ginger pills you can take.

Conclusion

We get it, headaches are no fun. If you find that your headaches are persistent and happening on a regular basis, you will want to make sure that you check with your doctor, and they can help you see if there is an underlying cause.
