Family Proof

Olympic Icon Michelle Kwan Quietly Welcomes Baby No. 2 at 45

Michelle Kwan, the two-time Olympic medalist figure skater, is now a mom for the second time. Sharing the news subtly on December 11, 2025.

In the announcement, Kwan introduced her second daughter, Della Rose Kwan to the world.

According to People, the 45-year-old celebrity revealed everything through an Instagram carousel, including a hospital-bed photo and a sweet family moment with her older child, Kalista Belle, who’s now 3.

Back in January 2022, fans got a similar subtle announcement when Kwan announced she’d welcomed Kalista, after keeping that pregnancy away from the spotlight. It’s a low-key pattern that stands out as the internet gets louder.

In the Instagram caption, Kwan wrote “Christmas came early,” adding that she was “overjoyed” to share that Della Rose had arrived, and that her “heart doubled in an instant” when she held her. She also described the tears that hit when Kalista walked into the hospital to meet her baby sister.

A quiet announcement, big feelings

The photos in the IG carousel helped fill in the gaps missing from this story. One image shows Kwan holding Della Rose closely. Another showed Kalista alongside her new baby sister. Other images showed a Christmas ornament with a family photo. All showcasing this will be a very special Christmas for the family.

In the IG comments, plenty of familiar names congratulated the family. ABC News listed names including Tara Lipinski, Allyson Felix, and Apolo Ohno.

In her caption, Kwan referenced “years of trying” before Kalista, then called getting to baby No. 2 “its own rollercoaster.” She thanked her family, her partner, and the doctors and support team who helped make it happen.

Kwan also spoke directly to women and families dealing with infertility, offering empathy instead of pretending the journey is easy.

The truth is, the majority of celebrity news can make the world look a bleak place, but when moments of joy spill out, it can help shine a light on the positives. Especially in a story where it’s just a mom sharing joy, while acknowledging the hard parts without turning them into a message.

Beyond the rink

Long before the diaper bag era, Kwan was a two-time Olympic medalist, plus a five-time world champion and a nine-time U.S. champion. This was a run that made her one of the most decorated American skaters ever.

According to reports by ABC News, Kwan was a former U.S. ambassador to Belize, and her public profiles lay out years of work in public service and advocacy beyond skating.

Despite all the accolades, it’s the privacy that stands out, because it’s so rare now. Multiple reports confirm she hasn’t publicly identified her current partner or the children’s father, and she refers to him only as “my love.”

I don’t need every detail to enjoy a good moment. If anything, seeing someone protect the edges of her life, while still sharing a little light, feels like a healthier way to do fame.
